The purpose of this website is to help you grow in personal defense and safety. This includes building your awareness, teaching you only the most effective techniques, and gearing your mind up to handle a life-threatening situation.
While self-defense is often treated with the most grave seriousness, the authors of Awesome Self-Defense want to communicate the passion and lightness they have experienced along the path to learn what you read in these pages. In the same way that a martial art simultaneously provides joy in it's practice and a survival skill in it's application, this site aims to build your self-defense awareness and at the same time capture the enjoyment in it's practice.
As it's name suggests, Awesome Self-Defense is a resource for the most realistic and practicle self-defense advice, mixed with the attitude of lightness and amusement that the authors of this site impose on the world.

If you're looking to stay safe in an urban jungle, this is for you. This section covers the broad topics surrounding self-defense. Most of these articles are considered fundamental and essential reading for anybody living in the modern world. While Self-Defense overlaps into Martial Arts and Weapons, all of the techniques and recommendations are specifically made for people who have not necessarily been trained.
For those who are interested in unarmed combat and martial arts, the articles in this section are dedicated to you. Our approach and philosophy to martial arts is similar to that of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kun Do - "The No-Way Way". We do not hold a bias to any particular style of martial arts, and thus the ideas represented in these pages are chosen for their effectiveness from many different martial arts schools. The concepts and techniques explained in these articles will at times require a certain level of martial arts skill and understanding.
